Family Support

The Family Support Program is designed to assist individuals with disabilities and their families to remain together in their homes and communities.

This program is funded by state dollars and helps families purchase services, supplies and equipment. Services provided are flexible and responsive to families and their needs.

An essential element of the program is family and consumer involvement. Local Councils have been established and meet on a regular basis to oversee and provide advice on the distribution of local services and funds.

Who is eligible?

Under the Family Support Act, the two prong test for eligibility is:

1) Eligible families/individuals must fall within the definition of family and include a family member with a severe disability.
2) The individual with a severe disability must be residing in the community in an unsupported setting.
