Our services are primarily funded by the Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) Waivers which are administered by the federal government through Medicaid and by the state of Tennessee. These are long-term care programs that serve or support individuals at home and in their communities.

Who Gets Waiver Services from MHDS?
A person must:
- Live in Tennessee;
- Not have more money than amount allowed to get Medicaid;
- Need the same care a person would need if they were living in a Developmental Center or private Intermediate Care Facility (ICF);
- Be able to get services and supports that will keep them safe in the community;
- Have a diagnosed Intellectual Disability before age 18.
