Flo’s Success at El Ranchito

Having a job and earning her own money are a big source of pride for Flo.  She had worked in a sheltered workshop for many years and it was difficult for her when that ended.  Staff worked very hard to find a good job placement for Flo to ensure she continued to have the self-esteem that employment brings to her.

Supported Employment Manager, Joe Hudson, had just the right spot in mind.  “I knew Flo was eager to continue to work but she really had not worked in the public.  To make her transition successful, I knew I needed to recruit the right employment partner.”

El Ranchito owner, Maria Howell, has been a great employment partner in Bolivar for a few years.  She has realistic expectations of the persons she employs from our program and she understands what they require in training.

Flo was stretching outside her comfort zone to prepare for her new job at El Ranchito.  She has risen to the requirements to make her effective as a dishwasher and also clears the dishes and wipes down tables after customers leave.

Flo brags about having a job and her enthusiasm for her work is obvious.  “I’m a hard worker,” she says.  “I like to work and have money to take trips and go shopping.”

Maria shares, “Flo’s desire to do a good job is obvious.  We are so glad to have her on our team.  We see her growing into the position and are very proud of her progress.”
