Johnny Appreciates Working at El Ranchito

As I approached El Ranchito in Bolivar to meet someone else, I encountered Johnny who was carefully wiping down the entrance door. I remarked that he sure had things shining and he replied, “That’s my job.”

Johnny has been working many months at the restaurant and is responsible for setting up tables and chairs, mopping the floors and cleaning the front entrance and lobby. El Ranchito owner, Maria Howell, employs several from MHDS’s Supported Employment Program. “We like to provide jobs for folks who truly want to work. It’s been great for my other staff to see how much they value their jobs.”

Connie is Johnny’s job coach. She says, “He really puts a lot of effort into what he does. He does the advance work to get the restaurant ready for customers. He’s learned a lot.”

Johnny’s motivated to work, in part, because, “I like to go out to eat. Got to work to have money.” MHDS is proud of the success Johnny enjoys and appreciate his employment partner for providing the opportunity.
