Mario’s Work at Kroger

Mario had been employed for many years in the fast food industry. Recently he wanted to try something else and Supported Employment staff helped him secure a new position at Kroger. He is responsible for bagging groceries, helping guests load their purchases and keeping carts transferred from the parking lot to the entrance for shoppers.

Kroger has been a great Supported Employment Partner for quite some time. Cherri King who supervises Mario shared, “We find the staff we employ who come from programs like yours to be very dependable and predictable. They can be counted on to do what is needed. You can tell they really value their job and want to be here. Sometimes they need extra patience as they are learning but once they’ve developed the skills, you won’t find a better employee.”

Mario says one of the highlights of his day is being able to help older customers load their groceries. “You can tell they really appreciate the help and it makes me feel good,” said Mario. He is saving his earnings to take a trip to California. He’s got a goal of going next year. We have confidence that Mario will make that goal.
