William’s Work at the Old Hatchie Vet Clinic

“We’ve never had a cleaner parking lot since William has been working here,” remarked one of the fellow staff at Old Hatchie Veterinary Clinic in Bolivar.  “We all know when William is working because there is nothing out of place.”

William has a varied job description and is responsible for cleaning the restrooms, gathering trash from the exam rooms, maintaining the parking lot, mopping the floors, mowing occasionally and keeping the windows clean.  He enjoys the diversity of his job but says he enjoys mowing the most.

“I get to use the riding and push mower.  I like to do that,” said William.  “I save my money because I like to go places.”  Lamont is William’s Job Coach.  He says, “William works very hard.  He caught on to the expectations they had and now is pretty independent.”

Dr. Frank Wilhite who owns the practice with his brother, Dr. Jerry Wilhite, explains, “We had employed persons with developmental differences before.  It means as much to us to give them an opportunity as it does to them.  William is a true asset and we’re glad he’s here.”
